Macho
In
1975 former DJ and record dealer Jacques Fred Petrus and his
companion Mauro Malavasi, a masterful piano player and teacher
at the conservatory of Bologna, formed the Goody music production
company (GMP). Petrus was the one that took care of all the
business contacts, contracts, promotions etc. Malavasi on his
side was the more low-key genius creator of the music. His role
was always fixed more or less, Petrus' more inpatient and restless
having difficulties to keep his hands away from all areas within
the GMP, even the musical creation process.
The
goal was to create their own music in the disco genre, a wish
that became reality in 1978 when they launched Macho as their
first joint project. Macho was a faceless studio project that
got its name from the lead singer Marzio Vincenzi's nickname
"Macho".
The
band is especially interesting as it was Petrus' and Malavasi's
baptism of fire in the music business. It wasn't a simple task
though to launch a completely new project like this as the competition
was extremely hard. They were convinced though to succeed. Petrus
was self-confident that his knowledge that he had built up as
a DJ and record dealer during the 70s was enough. He had also
very good knowledge about what the potential buyers of records
and visitors at Disoteques wanted to hear.
